Access for Reproductive Health Concerns

Apr 13, 2017, 17:04 PM

Reproductive HealthcareEveryone should have access to affordable, confidential, high-quality reproductive healthcare services. Due to the recent closure of the Central Iowa Family Planning Clinic in Grinnell, GRMC has been working to ensure everyone is still able to access family planning services. As a result, GRMC encourages uninsured or underinsured patients to reach out to Primary Health Care in Marshalltown for reproductive healthcare services.

Primary Health Care clinics are nonprofit community health centers dedicated to serving those that experience barriers to receiving care. They have established clinics and services in Ames, Des Moines, and Marshalltown. Costs are assessed on a sliding fee scale to 250 percent of poverty. Primary Health Care has federal Title X funding, which gives more flexibility to provide family planning services to uninsured patients. Title X is the federal grant program that seeks to provide comprehensive family planning and preventive services to all individuals.

Primary Health Care in Marshalltown provides a range of reproductive healthcare services. Services include annual reproductive exams for males and females; contraceptive management – all methods are available, including long-acting reversible contraceptives such as IUDs and Nexplanon; reproductive life planning; STD testing and treatment; pregnancy testing; and other issues related to sexual health.

Primary Health Care Clinic will provide access to Grinnell/Poweshiek County patients for reproductive healthcare services in their Marshalltown location. A free shuttle service will run the first and third Saturdays of the month from April through July. The shuttle will depart Grinnell from the Drake Community Library (Park Street side) at 9 a.m. and will depart Marshalltown to return to Grinnell. The return time will depend on the number of clients using this service. This program will adjust as the demand for transportation service increases. Individuals with transportation may schedule an appointment at any time with the Title X clinic.

To schedule an appointment, please call the Marshalltown Primary Health Care Clinic at 641-753-4021 and inform the receptionist that you are a Grinnell family planning patient.
