Life Changes for Today and Tomorrow

Someday you may become diabetic; but, you can take steps now to prevent it.

Prevent T2 is a program designed for people with prediabetes and those with a higher risk of developing type 2 diabetes. Participants in this 12-month lifestyle coaching program gain skills to decrease their risk of developing diabetes. The program’s goal is to help each participant lose weight, gradually increase physical activity, as well as assist participants in managing the stress in their lives. Each of the 22 classes has a different focus. Participants weigh in privately before each class. They receive a participant notebook, with fitness logs and food logs, so they can hold themselves accountable to make better choices.

This American Diabetes Association approved program helps prevent diabetes by working with individuals to be more active and watch what they eat. Grinnell Regional Medical Center  launched this service to residents due to need. According to the Iowa Department of Public Health, 30 percent of the population has prediabetes. In GRMC’s service area of 45,000 in central Iowa, 14,850 people could benefit from the program.
