GRMC Continues Affiliation Talks with UnityPoint Health and University of Iowa

Apr 10, 2017

Grinnell Regional Medical Center continues to make progress in forming an innovative relationship with UnityPoint Health – Des Moines and University of Iowa Health Care that will bring the best of both to Grinnell.

Late last year, the GRMC board of directors voted to integrate GRMC with UnityPoint Health – Des Moines, and continues to work with UI Health Care and UnityPoint Health – Des Moines to create agreements to expand service to the community.

A non-binding memorandum of understanding has been executed, and leadership at GRMC continues to work with UnityPoint Health and the University of Iowa on a more detailed affiliation agreement. Discussions with the GRMC medical staff also continue to progress. UnityPoint Health – Des Moines and UI Health Care are working with GRMC and its medical staff on priority needs, which include the implementation of a common electronic health record.

“Since we announced the formation of this partnership in November, our teams have been collaborating to chart a path that will enhance service to the communities we serve,” said Todd Linden, GRMC president and CEO. “We are pleased with the progress that has been made. I am confident we will soon complete this comprehensive planning phase.”

Enhancing specialty services, telemedicine, research, and educational opportunities, as well as introducing direct-to-employer programs remain GRMC’s goals in the process. The anticipated partnership will also allow the three organizations to share quality data and standardized best-practice treatment protocols across the continuum of care.

“This has been a long process. I want to thank the GRMC board, our medical staff, our employees, the community, UnityPoint Health – Des Moines, and UI Health Care for working diligently to improve healthcare in Grinnell,” Linden added. “Thanks to the work of so many dedicated people, headway is being made.”
