Health and human service organizations in Poweshiek County will participate in a full-scale emergency preparedness exercise on Friday, Nov. 10. Participating in the exercise will be Poweshiek County Emergency Management, Grinnell Regional Medical Center, Mayflower Homes, St. Francis Manor, Grinnell Health Care Center, Brooklyn Community Estate, Montezuma Specialty Care, University of Iowa Dialysis unit in Grinnell, and East Poweshiek Ambulance. Each entity has the opportunity to meet all state, federal, and local requirements pertaining to emergency preparedness exercise testing.
Objectives of the three-hour exercise include using an ice storm scenario to test the ability of each organization to activate its emergency operations plan within 15 minutes of notification. Each group will identify needed personnel, staffing patterns, and operation procedures to manage short and long term needs during an ice storm event. All participants will demonstrate the ability to communicate during an emergency, using various modes of communication.
