Wellmark Blue Distinction + for Maternity Care, February 2016
Blue Distinction Centers+ (BDC+) hospitals met overall quality measures for patient safety and outcomes, developed with input from the medical community. It also met cost measures that address consumers’ need for affordable health care. Each facility’s cost of care is evaluated using data from its Local Blue Plan. Research shows that, compared to other facilities, those designated as Blue Distinction Centers demonstrate better quality and improved outcomes for patients.
Women’s Choice Award, April 2015
GRMC’s delivery of emergency care was recognized by the Women’s Choice Award program. Hospitals earn the emergency care award by consistently ranking among the best providers that report performance measures to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). The Women’s Choice Award identifies America’s best hospitals “to help women make smart healthcare choices. Considering that women account for 90 percent of all healthcare decisions, being a hospital of choice women trust is commendable,” according to the Women’s Choice Award site.
Iowa Healthcare Collaborative Patient Safety Award, April 2015
GRMC’s work to reduce early elective infant deliveries has been recognized with the 2015 Patient Safety Award from the Iowa Healthcare Collaborative (IHC). The IHC patient safety awards are presented to healthcare providers and/or healthcare organizations who help to raise the standard of healthcare in Iowa by promoting a culture of continuous improvement in quality, safety, and value, and by honoring patient safety champions that support initiatives to improve patient safety; reduce the risk of harm; and keep patients at the center of care.
AARP Hospital Safety Superstars, April 2013
AARP The Magazine teamed up with The Leapfrog Group, which rates hospitals on safety and resource use, to showcase what some of the most innovative hospitals are doing to prevent errors. GRMC was recognized for these quality measures:
–To increase transparency, caregivers change shifts in the patient’s room so the patient hears condition reports and can become comfortable with new nurses and doctors.
–To eliminate mistakes, nurses repeat back physicians’ orders and also tell patients the type of blood they are hanging.
The Leapfrog Group, 2010, 2012, 2013: The Leapfrog Group named Grinnell Regional Medical Center to its annual list of Top Hospitals in 2010, 2012, and 2013. Top Hospital recognition means the medical center demonstrated exemplary performance across all areas of quality and patient safety that are analyzed on the Leapfrog Hospital Survey.
